Flying in for Bass

Mosquito Lake, ON Aug 2007

The trip had been booked for months, drive to Temagami then fly up to Mosquito lake for some bass fishing. The anglers had braught their whole arsenal of bass lures and we're primed for some good smallie action.

The host at the outfitter highly recommended the anglers pick up a flat of worms before getting aboard the plane. Thankfully the anglers did, because none of the usual bass lures: soft baits, spinners, buzzbaits or even senkos worked. What did work? a single hook and a live worm. Mosquito lake is loaded with bass and pike, the bass we're throwing themselves in the boat but the pike stayed a bit shy. The weather was extremely hot and heavy with no wind which may explain why pike stayed in colder spots and kept their activities to a minimum.

The outfitter is very remote, and if you are looking for wilderness then look no further. Alone on a small island with nothing but your small cottage a dock and for a bit of luxury, a BBQ. Everything is gas powered, from the lanterns to the refrigerator. The accomadations we're very rustic but very clean and provided everything that was needed to have a good night sleep and stay dry and comfortable through out the stay. DId we mention the bass? Lots and lots of small mouth Bass!
