Obsession!
That is what we can say about the summer of 2007. We have
learned so much about the species this summer and our
understanding of the predator has gone from Crappie rookies
to fanatic anglers.
From
july 1st to end of September muskies from all sizes have
been found, the mjority being in the high thirties with
a half dozen being in the fourties and only one in the
fifties club (which is majorly responsible for the obsession).
All muskies except for one has been caught trolling, what
does that mean? Does it mean muskies are easilier caught
trolling? We would have to say that it means we just haven't
been casting this summer. From 26 musky dedicated trips
this summer about 22 muskies have been boated and all
successfully released. That is an 85 percentile rate of
success.
The
lures seemed to vary from week to week, there were times
when only certain beleivers would catch muskies, other
times the swim N joe's, depthraiders and the stalkers
only caught two fish but guess what they were the bigest
ones! We look back thinking an angler can never know what
is best. All that is needed is something that makes some
noise and moves around in the water at the right place
and time to get these toothy girls to bite.
What
about the other species? We have been asking ourselves
that very question these past few weeks. I guess we should
get our heads out of the Esox sandbox for a few trips
and catch a few bass and walleye before the season ends.
This
sumer has also been great because of the new friendships
we have established in fishing community, we saw the people
side of the fishing world. A big thank you to you all
who have gave us a shot at musky fishing, we dont need
to mention any names, those concerned know who they are.
And
now.......
The
Fall season! Good luck! We are gonna need it!
