BIG Momma

Another evening fish after work. Rob and Loic dont have more than 3 hours to locate and catch a musky. Their hopes are high and are hoping to catch a few. Started with trolling points, casting some coon tails, trolled the rocks, trolled the bay.. its 8:00pm and still nothing!

On the way back a stop at the rocks to give it another try before calling it a night. Both anglers down size their lures, from 10inches to 7 inch stalkers. After a few minutes Rob yells fish on! A big red tail kicks the surface of the water, and the worst happens... fish off! Oh well, the lures go right back in the water, the boat does a U turn and heads back over the same spot where it hit. Merely seconds pass and its Loic's turn, fish on! It was a heavy fish, keeping to the bottom and pretty much decided where and when it was going without the anglers permission before showing itself.. after a few minutes it was in the net, a new best for Loic at 53 inches and 23inch girth. WOW!

The picture of the bent hook

Why its cool?

You can say I bent it trying to unhook it.. but the funny thing is that it pretty much fell out of the fish's mouth on its own once it actually opened its mouth in the net..

Why its not that cool?

The hook is merely a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. which means its not that strong and a bit small for musky.

Tip

Always use 5/0 + hooks on your musky lures. Large hooks set better in a muskies' thick mouth, and reduces chances of fish swallowing which can hurt it, its easy to change and makes good lures like this stalker become great lures!
