For the second time this year, all 3 cast members of fishingisliving.com are together on the boat. This was Kelly "last trip" of the season. So we decided to start with a bit of Bass.
We tracked down the smallies to a rocky structure which pulled out from under an island tip. We positioned the boat at the middle of the dop off perpendicular to the structure allowing all 3 of us to cast all depths on both sides. The Bass that we're eventually found had barely 1lb to them nothing to excited about what so ever but we are not complaining, its still fishing! Most of the smallies we'red triggered with a 3in green tube with a hint of bass lotion.
The winds had been very calm and the rain was starting, so surprise surprise the cast pulled out the musky gear! After trolling the obvious usual two first spot , captain Rob decided to follow a break line away from it which he saw was leading to a submerged hump in the middle of the channel. Right around the hump, the depthraider rod goes off!! Its Loic's fish! Big head shakes and good splash behind the boat gets everyone wondering if it could be a big one.. Abviously not the biggest one that was seen this year, but it was the biggest 42 incher at a 24 inch girth!!! That makes for a near 30lb fish. which explains the heavy head shakes.
Rod's go back in and the boat actually turns around for another pass around the same hump! Could there be more than one fish there? Well the boat comes around the hump again and as it pulls away from it Kelly screams fish on! His Beleiver rod (which he was actually holding) had another musky, only 5 minutes after the last one at the same spot. This however was a small one which we simply unhooked in the water (see video). That was it for Kelly, so Rob and Loic drop him off and the last two head to new spots for another 2 hours of fishing.
This time a channel break line is picked, and two diffrent colored 10in stalkers go in. a Perch orange belly and a purple white belly. Robs line (holding purple) violently bends and the line is ripped out the reel at a speed much faster than the boat is moving, fish on! a big one! .. this one was just playing with us.. as it let go as soon as we grabbed the Rod. Loic then suggests to turn around immediately to pass the lures over the fish again since it was in feeding mode. Rob remembers this from july 17th where Loic caught a big fish after passing over a fish had just lost seconds before. " You better not take my fish again", Rob yells. Well history repeats itself, Loic's line starts to rip, this time the perch colored lure was the target. But this was not the same kind of rips the angles had heared a minute ago. It was much smaller. This was a 42.5 not as heavy as the first fish.
So 3 Bass, 3 muskies 3 friends couldn't ask for a better day!
