Perch afternoon
Another beautiful Sunday, so why stay indoors? Gave my dad a call early in the morning and invited him to go out on the ice for the afternoon. Without any hesitation he took me up on it and he was at my door step about an hour later.

Once again my first target was walleye, but it seems I have a lot to learn on how to catch them in winter. Well I kind of knew we were not going at the right time of day for walleyes. Headed out on Big Lake Louis to try our luck. Moved around a bit between 16 feet and 25 feet with only a small bite and nothing to show for it. Although the sonar was picking up fish it was just not feeding time.
After an hour or so, the wind starting howling so we decided to switch it up and head to a quiet bay in shallow water to see if we could at least get some perch. So we did! Drilled a few holes in 9 feet of water safely away from the gusts of wind, it took only a few minutes and they were hitting our minnow heads. Every ten minutes or so we would pull up two or three perch. They always hit the jig on the way down, every time! If I kept my lure steady on bottom for a while with no hits by pulling up the rod a few feet then pausing usually they would hit and that’s where I set the hook.
Once again my dad caught more fish than I did.

P.S Also found that using a minnow head instead of a full minnow had better results.
